| About
Us
HSU SA is a union representing members
employed in health and community services industries. HSU members are
employed at over 250 worksites across the State.
HSU's main aim is to improve the working
lives of its members by negotiating improvements in wages and conditions
and protecting workers rights.
To achieve this aim HSU is organised so
that members have a genuine voice in their workplace and have real control
of the issues that affect their working lives. Members experience shows
that many issues can only be satisfactorily resolved when members
themselves come together as a group and support each other. This
involvement of members working together is helped through the election of
worksite representatives as follows:
- Workplace delegates (individual
members in workplaces who are nominated and elected by other members
as their representatives in the workplace).
- HSU Worksite Committees (a group of
members in a particular workplace who have been nominated and elected
by other members in that workplace) that meet regularly as a group to
discuss issues raised by members and determine the best way to deal
with the issue.
- Health Professionals Sub Branch
commits (a group of Health Professionals who are nominated and elected
by Health Professionals) who meet regularly to discuss issues that
affect Health Professionals.
HSU supports members with training to
help members gain skills to become more involved in the union.
HSU also researches particular issues
that members have identified as being important to their industry or
workplace.
It is only through the participation of
members that we as a Union can continue to work on issues that are
important to members and improve our working conditions.
Our rules also provide for the election
every four years of the State Secretary, Assistant State Secretary and the
HSU Committee of Management (a group of members from various worksites
who are responsible for the overall management of the Union).
